Meet Marita
Marita Scotland is a qualified Teacher, specialising in English Literature, Language and Literacy. She has taught in secondary schools across London for over 15 years and held various academic roles including Senior Leader (in charge of Early Career Teachers, PGCE students and new staff induction), Head of English Faculty (English, Drama and MFL) and Instructional Coach.
Having worked in school improvement for the majority of her career, Marita made a strategic move into higher education in order to work with the next generation of educators.
She is a part time Associate Lecturer at a popular London university, working in the Educational Studies Department with PGCE English Teachers and an Academic Writing and Study Skills Lecturer full time.
‘Paragraph’ was founded by Marita in the hope to (re)connect Black English Teachers – an under represented group in the UK’s teaching community. Her wealth of experience as a classroom practitioner and coach will help Teachers globally gain promotion, develop coaching and mentoring skills and ‘navigate’ the current system. This in turn will have a positive impact on the workforce, students’ well-being and attainment.
‘Paragraph’ is the network Marita wished was available when she started teaching in Fulham at the start of her career. It is a space where Teachers can connect, be coached and truly ‘be the Teacher they wish they had!’
